Michigan Handgun Safety Inspection Law

Gun Holsters | Comments (0) admin @ 1:04 pm

An Oregon teacher is fighting the school board to be able to bring a gun to school for protection.

Shirley Katz, a teacher at South Medford High School in Medford, Oregon, is fighting for the right to carry a concealed weapon onto the school campus click here. Katz, 44, says she needs a pistol to protect her from estranged husband, Gerry Katz. The teacher also claims to have fear about a Columbine-style attack. The school district has banned weapons from the high school campus. Katz is challenging the ban, stating that it is unlawful because it violates her second amendment rights. Oregon does not ban its residents from taking guns into public buildings, save for certain exceptions.
Michigan Handgun Safety Inspection Law
"This is primarily about my Second Amendment right and Oregon law and the simple fact that I know it is my right to carry that gun," said Katz in a statement at her home. "I have that (concealed weapons) permit. I refuse to let my ex-husband bully me. And I am not going to let the school board bully me, either."

Origin Of The Texas Concealed Handgun Law

Obtaining a concealed weapons permit in Oregon is not difficult for anyone who has a clean criminal record and completes a gun safety course. The permits can be granted by a sheriff.

Although Oregon is not among them, thirty-eight states, along with the District of Columbia, prohibit anyone from taking guns to school, according to the National Council of State Legislatures. It’s unclear if special weapons permits offer an exemption from the ban.

South Medford High School Superintendent Phil Long insists employees and students are safer without guns on campus. The safety factor will be the basis of the school district’s argument at a hearing scheduled for 2 P.M. on Thursday.

Katz wouldn’t reveal whether she has ever taken a gun to school. However, the teacher is known to practice with it regularly and has thought about what action she would take should she ever have to confront a gunman. Katz says she would be sure students were locked away safely and out of the line of fire, and she would be armed and ready.

"Our safety plan at our school now is that if somebody threatening comes in, you try to avoid eye contact, and do whatever they say, and that is not acceptable anymore," she said. Shootings at Virginia Tech University and the one-room Amish school in Pennsylvania "reinforced my belief we have to take action, we can’t just acquiesce as we have been taught to do."

Katz never owned a gun until she moved with her now estranged husband, commercial photographer Gerry Katz, from Atlanta to a rural stead in the foothills of the Cascade Range.

"Being out in the country, we just felt we needed to have a gun here for personal safety," she said.

Shirley Katz said she bought the pistol in 2004 after Gerry Katz allegedly grabbed her by the throat and threatened to kill her. Gerry Katz denies the allegation.
In fact, Gerry Katz is convinced that his estranged wife’s desire to take her gun to school is really about an attempt to get sole custody of their 6-year-old daughter.

"She’s just scamming everybody," he said. "As soon as this thing started…I called the principal at her high school and told her…I am not coming to your school. I am not a threat to her. I have no desire to hurt her."

Some South Medford students have been transferred from Katz’s class due to the controversy. Others say they are uncomfortable with the idea of a teacher carrying a gun to school, especially since they aren’t allowed to bring their own scissors.

"I totally understand she wants to protect herself," said Lauren Forderer, 16, a junior. "But I don’t agree she should bring her problems around 2,000 other people."
Even if she wins, Katz said, she may not bring the gun to school.

"The whole point of carrying concealed is no one should know you’re carrying," Katz said. "So I feel like my carrying concealed on campus now sets me up as a target."

Origin Of The Texas Concealed Handgun Law

Gun Holsters | Comments (1) admin @ 3:08 pm

The gun control debate in America is a battle between personal freedom and public safety. For nearly 160 years, there were no limits to the Second Amendment, which guarantees "the right of the people to keep and bear arms." In 1934, however, and especially in the last four decades, Americans have begun to proscribe and debate the extent of that right. The National Firearms Act of 1934 was the first restriction on gun rights in American history. As a result, fully automatic weapons are available only after an extensive background check on the owner.

Origin Of The Texas Concealed Handgun Law

In 1968, the term "gun control" gained new meaning with the passage of the federal Gun Control Act. Ratified in the wake of two important political assassinations — Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. — the Act requires that all guns carry serial numbers forever tied to the original purchaser. Additionally, it prohibited gun ownership by convicted felons and, as a result of a 1990s amendment, it requires a criminal background check for purchasers at the time of sale.

Certain states have their own gun control legislation, although all are governed by the federal Act of 1968. Individual states can deem their own levels of restriction on concealed weapons and open carry, or the visible transporting of a weapon. And restrictions vary widely by state, with New York and Illinois seen as the most restrictive and Arizona and Texas, the most relaxed. In that case we can ask ourselves which is best concealed carry?

The latest incarnation of the gun control debate has been in the form of the Assault Weapons Ban of 1994, which Congress failed to uphold in its latest session. The law prohibited the sale of any semi-automatic assault weapons manufactured after 1994. Supporters of the ban said it helped keep violent weapons off the street, while opponents claimed it imposed a confusing classification system, was overly restrictive and had little effect on controlling violent crime.

Carrying concealed handgun Massachusetts. Gun rights advocates argue that a well-armed public helps prevent crime and ensure personal safety. Gun control proponents, on the other hand, fear that widespread gun ownership actually increases crime rates and leads to other negative outcomes, both public and private. Is the Second Amendment out-of-date, or does it guarantee an integral right?

Carrying Concealed Handgun Massachusetts

Gun Holsters | Comments (1) admin @ 9:08 pm

As a PI, eventually you’ll be hired for a case that traverses state lines. When that happens, while you may be qualified and permitted to carry in your state, you may not be allowed to carry in other states your cases take you to.
Carrying Concealed Handgun Massachusetts
The first thing you will need to understand is a bit of legal jargon, the difference between the terms ’shall issue’ and ‘may issue.’ ‘Shall issue’ simply means that issuing officials need to have a good reason in order to deny a permit. Otherwise, you are issued the conceal and carry permit by simply going through the application process and meeting the state requirements. Thirty-nine of the fifty states have the ’shall issue’ law.

‘May issue’ laws require that the applicant show a need to carry a concealed weapon which leaves things pretty arbitrarily open to come up with reasons to deny permits. That is indeed what happens in those states. In that case which is the best concealed carry for your gun?

Two states (Wisconsin and Illinois) don’t allow any kind of permit to carry for someone who is not a law enforcement officer. I suppose to counter that backward thinking, two other states (Alaska and Vermont) allow anyone over the age of 16 and 21 respectively who is not a felon, to carry a weapon without any kind of permit. Of the ‘may issue’ states, Maryland rarely issues permits, while Hawaii never issues them. Now that you have some background on which states allow what in terms of permitting CCW, now lets discuss where you can travel with your weapon without being accosted by local authorities.

Handcrafted leather handgun holsters

The answer is, it depends on which state you live in and received your permit from. The Mountain West and Southern States are all pretty lenient with each other. For the western, mid-western and north eastern states, it’s pretty much a crap shoot. I like to use the reciprocity map at http://handgunlaw.us to let me know where I can bring my weapon before I travel. If I’m just driving through a state, I like to refer to my copy of the ‘Guide To The Interstate Transportation of Firearms.’ on the NRA-ILA website.

Just because a state will allow you to carry a loaded firearm into their state while driving through doesn’t mean that the city you’re driving through doesn’t have laws against it. Crazy, I know, but you will need to brush up on the requirements for any city you plan to drive through. And certain states will allow some firearms but not others. You know, it’s kind of like needing to get a Trip Tic from AAA before traveling. Find out what you need to know before you go and you’ll avoid trouble.

If you are flying, the FAA has rules about firearms on a commercial aircraft (no issues on a small aircraft unless it’s a charter). You may not carry a loaded weapon in the cabin with you. Rather, you must place it in your checked baggage unloaded, and you must tell the security folks who are scanning your luggage BEFORE they scan your suitcase and throw you up against the wall spread-eagle.

There are many people out there who support strict gun control from licensing and fingerprinting, to even banning guns altogether. But an answer solving the problems of gun violence in this country is not banning guns from law-abiding citizens.

FIST Holsters is a custom leather outfit based in NY, NY. They produce best concealed carry holsters in a number of materials including leather, various types of kydex, leather/kydex hybrid material, and some limited exotic skins. FIST really puts an emphasis on concealed carry holsters as the owner is a big fan of CCW.

Handcrafted Leather Handgun Holsters
FIST is a custom gun holster shop where everything is made to order, and takes anywhere from 6-8 weeks. FIST is one of the few custom holster makers that will give the customer the opportunity to select a base holster model and then customize it with a number of unique options like:

*Tension screw
*Bodyshield
*Thumb break
*Handboned leather
*Closed bottom

What is the best concealed carry handgun? Unlike some other holster makers, FIST uses a heavier grade of leather for all of their holsters. Leather is assigned a rating based on the weight of one square foot of the leather. Many holster makers use a 6-7 ounce grade leather for holsters, while FIST uses an 8-9 ounce grade. FIST also offers a full array of dye colors so the customer can choose from 8 different colors.

FIST also takes a different approach to their line of kydex holsters. Most kydex holster makers use a fairly heavy gauge of kydex that us usually around .70 of an inch. FIST holsters use much thinner kydex and it’s available in two different grades: thin and ultra thin. The ultra thin has to be the thinnest kydex I’ve ever seen and is best suited for IWB applications. The thin is also very thin, and it better suited to outside the waistband holsters.

Somewhat unique in the gun holster industry, FIST Holsters offers a full line of concealment holsters that can be further customized to your specific needs. This site is an excellent resource for gun holsters and has some FIST holsters for sale: FIST Holsters.

What Is The Best Concealed Carry Handgun

Gun Holsters | Comments (2) admin @ 7:00 pm

Introduced by Ruger in October 2007, the SR9 was Ruger’s first attempt at a striker fired pistol. It was designed for civilian carry, self defense, and law enforcement use. With this striker fired design, the SR9 has a pre-set trigger similar to a Glock, where the striker is partially cocked during the reloading cycle, and then fully cocked when the trigger is pulled. Like the popular Ruger P90 series, the SR9 features a fiberglass reinforced frame that is very rigid and resists the flex that usually occurs as the weapon is fired. The SR9 has a steel slide that is available in a brushed or black finish.

What Is The Best Concealed Carry Handgun
A new feature for Ruger, the SR9 has a removable and interchangeable backstrap system that allows the shooter to adjust the size of the grip. This model also features a picatinny rail for mounting lasers and flashlights, along with an ambidextrous manual safety, loaded chamber indicator and striker indicator.

Like many Ruger pistols, the SR9 has a magazine disconnect, so the weapon cannot fire without the magazine in place. Ruger has also noted that if the SR9 is dry fired without the magazine in the gun, it will cause unnecessary wear to the striker block. Should you not like the magazine disconnect feature, it can be deactivated by removing the disconnect link.

Ruger discovered a possible problem where the SR9 could potentially fire if dropped while the manual safety was off, so they initiated a recall in April of 2008. Ruger has designed a new trigger group that eliminates that problem and will most likely be retrofitting most all SR9 models.

As the SR9 has become more popular, more and more holster makers are now producing models for the weapon such as concealed carry fanny holsters. In terms of styles, holster makers are doing most every holster style including belt holsters, IWB holsters, tuckable leather holsters and shoulder holsters. Due the the overall size of the SR9, it’s best suited for outside the waistband carry, although IWB is a possibility as well.

Tuckable Leather Holsters

Gun Holsters | Comments (1) admin @ 11:15 am

Based out of Florida, Kel-Tec first started producing the P-11 model handgun in 1991. It was designed using similar Kel-Tec models such as the P-32, and was created to target the growing concealed carry market.
Tuckable Leather Holsters
Swedish firearms designer George Kellgren was hired to create the P-11 design. Kellgren wanted to reduce the overall weight so he created a polymer frame that mated to a steel frame with steel internals. The result was a handgun that weighed only 20 ounces when fully loaded.

The P-11 was designed primarily for concealed carry fanny by civilians and law enforcement officers. The original P-11 was chambered for 9mm and came with a 10 round magazine. An additional 12 round mag is available as an aftermarket item. The initial success of the P-11 in 9mm prompted Kel-Tec to produce a similar version in both .40 S&W and .357 Sig. The .40 cal series was called a P-40 while the .357 Sig version was called a P-357. Both models mated the standard P-11 polymer frame with a larger, heavier slide. Due to the low weight, both the P-40 and P-357 produced substantial recoil and were somewhat difficult to control. As such, both models were discontinued in 1994 with only a few thousand of each being sold.

Due to it’s popularity, deep cover concealment shoulder holsters for the P-11 aren’t that difficult to find. However, it’s important to note that the P-40 and P-357 models won’t fit a holster designed for the P-11. Slightly too large for a pocket holster, the P-11 is an ideal candidate for an IWB holster, or most any other mainstream holster.

In terms of CCW pistols under $300, the P-11 is a clear winner. The 10 or 12 rounds of 9mm is enough firepower to deal with most two or four legged problems, and the 20 ounce weight means you can comfortably carry it all day. My only real issue with the P-11 is the heavy trigger that Kel-tec sets at a hefty 9 pound pull. Aside form that being a little too heavy for my tastes, I think the P-11 is a steal.

Deep Cover Concealment Shoulder Holsters

Gun Holsters | Comments (1) admin @ 8:08 am

The phrase "concealed carry fanny holster" seems to have many different meanings to different people. To some, it means any holster that can be somewhat hidden. According to Webster’s dictionary, the word concealed means "to prevent disclosure or recognition of, or to place out of sight." In reality, a concealed carry holster needs to hide the weapon from the view of others, while still allowing for quick access.

Deep Cover Concealment Shoulder Holsters
In the past, shooters basically had a choice of either an inside the waistband holster or a belt holster for their concealed carry needs. Now that firearms manufacturers are producing smaller handguns in potent calibers, other styles of holsters such as pocket models and ankle holsters are now being marketed for concealed carry.

Concealment holster 3032 beretta tomcat. Each type of concealed carry holster has pros and cons. Even with those pros and cons, certain factors can impact the performance of a concealed carry holster. Some of those factors include:

Weapon size

Build

Climate

Although most of these elements are somewhat related, here’s some specific thoughts on each one.

Size of the weapon – This is the one factor that seems to overlooked when trying to choose a concealed carry holster. The size of the weapon will play a significant role in the type of concealed carry holster and the extent that it can be concealed. Obviously, the smaller the weapon, the easier it tends to be to conceal. At the same time, a really small weapon may not have enough firepower or round count to adequately protect you. The route for most people is to decide on an appropriately sized weapon and then start holster shopping. Generally, the problems start to arise when the selected weapon is a bit too large and proper concealment becomes an issue.

As weapon selection and size are so important, here are a few ideas to get you going down the right path. First, match the weapon to the application. For example, if your weapon will be doing triple duty in home defense, concealed carry, and competition shooting; then you’ll probably need to look at a larger compact size weapon. However, if you are purchasing a weapon strictly for concealed carry, then focus on this application. In addition to being more difficult to conceal, larger weapons may also rule out some forms of concealed carry like pocket carry or ankle holsters.

Build – Aside from weapon size, this is another factor that is seldom considered before searching for a concealed carry holster. Let’s face it; not everyone is built the same so not all forms of concealed carry holsters are going to work for everyone. Probably inside the waistband holsters are the biggest issue for different body types. If an inside the waistband holster won’t work for you, look at a high riding belt holster, a pocket holster, or an ankle holster as a possible alternative.

Climate – Although many people don’t think that much about it, climate can and will play a major role in concealed carry. To a certain degree, climate will dictate the type of clothing that you wear, which in turn will play a part in your concealed carry. Hot or humid climates will usually require shorts and short sleeves, while cooler climates allow for more clothing, which translate to easier concealment. Warm climate locations can pose the biggest challenges to concealed carry as clothing is minimal. In this situation, weapon selection becomes paramount. Warmer climates also can eliminate some potential concealed carry methods. For example, if shorts is the preferred pants in that climate, ankle carry and ankle holsters won’t be an option. Take climate into consideration when holster shopping.

While I may not have given you an exact road map to the best concealed carry holster for your needs, I do hope that you’ve got some things to think about now. If you have any questions about concealed carry holsters, please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail us.

Concealment Holster 3032 Beretta Tomcat

Gun Holsters | Comments (1) admin @ 6:26 pm

Introduced by Beretta in 2001, the 9000S was one of the first Beretta weapons that was specifically designed to target the United States concealed carry market. Most all prior handguns that Beretta had produced were targeted for either military or police, but Beretta saw a specific market forming in the concealed carry arena. Beretta had originally thought about calling the weapon the "Baby Beretta", but later changed their minds as they thought it might cause some confusion within their sub-compact line of handguns.

Concealment Holster 3032 Beretta Tomcat
The frame of the 9000S is very compact and made from a reinforced polymer material to reduce the weight. Originally, Beretta had planned on using an even smaller frame, but later designed to move to a slightly larger model as initial testing demonstrated some grip complaints due the shortened frame. The 9000S was also the first Beretta handgun that featured a tilt down barrel locking mechanism based somewhat on the original John Browning design.

Ankle holster for beretta 25 caliber. Beretta took a somewhat different approach in regards to caliber, and released the .40 caliber version to the market first in 2001. Apparently, they felt that the .40 caliber was becoming very popular and would surpass the 9mm as a concealed carry round. The 9mm version followed in 2002 and was equally as popular as the .40 cal version. The 9mm version will carry 12 rounds while the .40 cal. model will carry 10 . As the 9000S frame is somewhat compact, Beretta added a feature to the magazine floor plate so it has a drop down tab that extends it’s length. This feature is nice for shooters with larger hands, who may prefer the added length.

The 9000S was designed in two different configurations. The original 9000S was a model "D" and was double action only. Later, the 9000S-F model was released, which was double action or single action. The F model has a decocker which controls the hammer release. Interestingly enough, the F series was the first Beretta model that could be carried and fired from a "cocked and locked" or hammer down position like most all the Browning designs. Both the D and F models are equipped with a firing pin block so the weapon won’t discharge without the trigger being pulled.

Like many other handguns on the market, the 9000S is easy to field strip and breaks down into 4 components. All the components are large so the shooter won’t lose any parts or have to be concerned with any small springs. Reassembly takes a matter of seconds and the weapon is battle ready again.

Finding a Beretta 9000S concealed gun holsters isn’t really the problem, the problem is finding a good concealed carry holster for this weapon. This site has quite a few Beretta 9000S gun holsters for sale => Beretta 9000S Holster.

Taurus Pt145 Concealment Holster

Concealed gun holsters carry with a Taurus Millennium Pro

Introduced to the market by Taurus Manufacturing in 2005, the Millennium Pro model was intended to be an upgrade over the standard Taurus Millennium series. Like the Millennium series, the Pro series was specifically designed to target the civilian concealed carry, self defense, and law enforcement markets.
Taurus Pt145 Concealment Holster
Taurus Millennium series side arms are produced with injection molded polymer frames, with slides are available in blued carbon steel, stainless steel, or a titanium version. The blued model is the most popular out of those three. The Mill Pro series is available in the following cartridges: .32 ACP, .380, 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. Depending on the model and caliber, magazine capacities vary between 6, 10, and 12 rounds. The Millennium line includes several innovative safety features including a positive firing pin block as well as the "Taurus Safety Latch", a transfer bar safety which prevents firing of the pistol unless the trigger is pulled. Together these safeties assure that the pistol will not fire if it is accidentally dropped; selected models have been certified as satisfying the California Drop safety requirement. All Millennium models also include a slide-mounted safety lever.

The Millennium Pro series is similar to the standard PT series, but is also significantly different. These differences include an higher magazine capacity, reduced trigger travel with a smoother and lighter trigger pull, an lighter frame, and an improved more ergonomic grip design. Some other important differences include the upgraded Heine sights and an integrated accessory rail.

From a holster perspective, nearly all the PT Millennium Pro series are built on the same frame (PT-111 Mill Pro, PT-140 Mill Pro, PT-145 Mill Pro). As such, most any pistol holster for any of these models will fit any of the other models. For example, a holster for the PT-111 Mill Pro will usually also fit a PT-140 or PT-145 Mill Pro

It’s important to point out that there are substantial design differences between the Mill Pro series and the standard Millennium series that will impact holster fit. As the Pro series had an picatinny rail and the standard Millennium series doesn’t, the holsters are not interchangeable between the two. A holster for a Mill Pro series will most likely fit a standard series, but not vice-versa.

Over all, the Millennium Pro family is an first-class choice for concealed carry or self defense. As mentioned above, it offers a number of features that are typically found on more expensive pistols.

Concealed Handgun Laws In Texas

Firearms And The Protection Of Family

During the turbulent birth of our country, our forefathers gave us the right to bear arms via the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution. There are many ongoing debates, pro & con on this topic.

Concealed Handgun Laws In Texas
I for one, am grateful for the 2nd Amendment. Having worked in the law enforcement field for several years, I fully understand that most often, police respond to a call well after the crime has been committed. Crime prevention is relinquished to the individual.

In those States that offers the privilege of offering conceal carry licenses, the crime rates have shown to be substantially less than those States with stringent gun control. New York & Washington D.C. Are prime example of States with strict anti-gun laws, yet their crime rates are well above average. Would you dare to stroll Central Park in the dark hours? One thing is for certain, Criminals will never have shortage of guns, no matter what State they happen to be in, and very often their firepower exceed those of our law enforcement agencies, we are however making great progress in that aspect.

Long ago, I made the decision that my home and family would be protected via firearms. This is a decision that may not be viable for all. Believing that brandishing a weapon toward an intruder will be all that is needed to safeguard your family, could be a fatal error! Protecting with a firearm requires a mind set of being able to use that firearm, to pull the trigger if the situation requires it, and continue to do so until the threat has been dealt with. I also keep my gun in concealed handgun holsters. This may sound harsh, but seasoned criminals will often be able to tell if home owner is using his weapon for show or is actually serious about using it.

There have been many instances where a home owner did not have the mind set to actually use his/her weapon, only to have it snatched by the intruder and get injured or killed by their own gun.

In my case, should an intruder invade my home and poses a threat to myself or loved ones, I will not hesitate to shoot him/her until the threat has been dealt with. My aim will be for center of mass, a double tap will be fired (2 shots), then I will evaluate the situation and if the threat persists will again fire until there is no more threats and the intruder if able follows my instructions. If a member of my family has not called 911 by that time, a call will be made for police help & medical services for the intruder.

All those living under my roof, have received training in the use of firearms and are quite proficient in their use. Having firearms in the home also requires extensive precautions in terms of safety. All my weapons are kept in either my large gun safe or in handgun safe boxes, out of reach from little fingers as well as out of sight. Only at bed time will I have handguns/shotgun out by our bed, a charged cell phone is also next to our bed during that time.

Protection of one’s family is a very important decision which should involve all adults in the home. Firearms are not the answer for everyone. Many people feel that they will never become victims in their own home & that if need arises, their local police agency will be there to protect them.

My reality does not follow that line of thinking, therefore I am prepared should problems arise. I hope and pray that the day for the use of my training never materialize.

These are the weapons with concealment holster for a single action revolver that we would use and are proficient with should trouble comes knocking on our door.

HK USP45 = full size pistol in .45acp
Glock 23 = compact .40SW (wife’s)

Mossberg 500 Defender model = 12gauge loaded with #4 buckshot
Ruger Mini 30 = 7.62×39 (20rds mags) in unlikely case where shots would be needed past 30/40 yards.

My conceal carry favorite pistol is the Kel-Tec P11 in 9mm, followed closely by a Walther PPKS in .380.

When fishing or hiking in areas where dangerous predators reside, a SW Mountain Gun in .44mag is always carried in my shoulder holster.

I suggest that home protection be a subject discussed at home among adults, that a plan be decided upon should trouble find you, if it involves firearms make sure that SAFETY is your first objective and followed by proficiency with whatever weapon you choose. Do not get weapons that are too much for you, it is much better to be able to hit your target with a smaller caliber than to just miss and make loud noises.

Concealment Holster For A Single Action Revolver

Gun Holsters | Comments (1) admin @ 3:16 pm

Criminals by their very nature are cowards, and commit their crimes when they believe their chances of being seen are low. It should come as no surprise, then, that more crimes are committed at night. It also follows that the majority of defensive uses of firearms occur at night.
Concealment Holster For A Single Action Revolver
For citizens who carry a gun for defense, or keep one in the home in a concealed handgun holsters. This presents a problem. Low-light conditions make it more difficult for the citizen to see the criminal and more difficult for the citizen to use the gun’s sights. Fortunately, though, there are products and techniques that enable you to identify a potential threat and, if necessary, quickly get your gun on target. Each product and technique has its advantages and disadvantages, so it’s important to find the solution that’s best for you.

Night Sights

If you keep a gun for self defense, night sights are an absolute must. In defensive shooting, shot placement is key to stopping an attack. If you can’t quickly align your sights, chances are you’ll miss.

Many companies produce glow-in-the-dark night sights for handguns and long guns. Usually these sights have dots that are filled with tritium, a radioactive gas that glows in the dark. Trijicon, Meprolight, Novak and other companies make night sights that fit most production guns with little or no modification to the gun required.

Night sights are effective when you’re able to at least see the criminal, and know with certainty that he constitutes a threat. In total or near-total darkness, though, night sights will not enable you to see your attacker or at least confirm that he is indeed a threat.

Flashlights

Using a flashlight in conjunction with your defense gun enables you to identify a potential threat. More importantly, a flashlight enables you to identify persons who are not a threat. Nothing is more tragic than mistakenly shooting an innocent person.

In a tense defensive situation, holding a gun steady is often itself difficult. Trying to hold a gun as well as a flashlight becomes even trickier. However, there are techniques you can learn that have been proven over time.

One popular flashlight/handgun hold is called the "Harries technique." With this technique, you hold your gun in your strong hand, and the flashlight in your support hand. The wrist of your gun hand rests upon the wrist of your flashlight hand, and you bend the wrist on your flashlight arm so that the backs of the two hands are touching. This hold puts the flashlight directly parallel to the bore of the gun and provides a solid support for your gun hand. The primary disadvantage to the Harries technique is that it forces your gun hand to point the gun off to one side. If you’re right-handed, you’ll see that your gun is pointed twenty or thirty degrees to the left of your line of sight. To compensate, you’ll need to hold the gun and flashlight much farther to the right than you ordinarily would.

Another common flashlight/gun hold is the "FBI technique." This entails holding the flashlight at arms length away from your body. The advantage to this technique is that the criminal will be inclined to shoot where he sees the light, while you’ll have him in your sights. The disadvantage to the FBI technique is that you’ll be shooting one-handed, something that requires much more practice than two-handed shooting.

A variation of the Harries technique is taught by instructors for Massad Ayoob’s Lethal Force Institute (LFI) classes. With this hold, the gun hand rests on the top of the wrist of the flashlight hand. The wrist of the flashlight hand is bent enough to aim the light at the target, and the meat of the bottom of the gun hand is forward of the wrist of the flashlight hand. Having the meat of the gun hand pressing against the wrist of the flashlight hand eliminates what is called "limp-wristing," where there’s not enough support for the gun to properly recoil and cycle the next round. Limp-wristing can result in failures to feed in semiautomatic handguns.

With advances in micro circuit technology, lasers and lamps, there are alternatives to the cumbersome flashlight/handgun combination.

Weapons-mounted lasers and lights were once used only by police SWAT teams and the military. Today, though, prices for such lights and lasers have reached the point where almost anyone can afford them. As with night sights and flashlights, weapons-mounted lasers and lights have their advantages and disadvantages.

Laser Sights

Laser sights are extremely effective in low light conditions where you can positively identify a threat to you, and need to get your gun on target quickly. By simply depressing a switch, you activate the laser. When the laser dot is on your target, you’re ready to fire if necessary.

Laser sights have become so compact that they have almost no effect on the weight or grip of the gun. Crimson Trace makes grips for most popular models of handguns that are nearly identical to the size of original factory grips. Other companies, such as LaserMax, make laser sights that are equally unobtrusive. Guns equipped with such grips and sights will generally fit any standard holster.

The disadvantage with laser sights is the same as for glow-in-the-dark night sights: if you can’t see the criminal, you don’t know where to aim your gun. Thus laser sights are best suited for low-light conditions rather than no-light conditions.

Weapons-Mounted Lights

Weapons-mounted lights provide the positive threat identification of flashlight/handgun combinations, but without the cumbersome techniques and training. A simple press of a switch illuminates the area, allowing you to identify a potential threat.

Weapons-mounted lights–also called "tactical lights"–are usually mounted on a rail just forward of the trigger guard on a handgun. Most have switches that are placed within finger’s reach for fast activation. Brightness levels on weapons lights vary from dozens of lumens to hundreds of lumens.

Many weapons lights also incorporate laser sights, giving you the ability to positively identify a threat even in total darkness, and then quickly lock on to the target with the laser sight.

Weapons-mounted lights are not without their disadvantages, though. One disadvantage is that most weapons lights require the use of holsters specifically designed for such lights. Some models even require the use of holsters designed especially for a particular light/gun combination.

Perhaps the primary disadvantage to weapons lights is that their use violates one of the four cardinal rules of gun use: never point your gun at an object you are not willing to destroy. When you’re shining your weapon light on a person, you’re pointing your gun at that person as well. Imagine hearing a suspicious noise and lighting up the area, only to find that you’re pointing your gun at your child.

You can minimize this problem by strictly adhering to another of the four cardinal rules of gun use: keep your finger off the trigger until you’re ready to fire. Also, holding the gun at a "low ready" position, with the muzzle pointed 45 degrees toward the ground, will allow you to see your environment without directly pointing your gun at someone.

Night sights, flashlights, laser sights and weapons lights all give you an advantage in nighttime defensive gun use. In the end, though, there’s no substitute for training. Lastly, there’s no substitute for the hope and prayer that you never need to use your defense gun.

Concealed Handgun Permit Texas

Gun Holsters | Comments (0) admin @ 7:33 pm

You have decided to purchase a handgun and carry it under the legal requirements of the state you live in. You have also decided to carry your handgun in a concealed handgun holsters designed to be attached to the belt or your pants in the waistline area.

We referred to this as waistline retention in a previous article. Overwhelmingly, this is how most civilians choose to carry a handgun, and it is the preferred method of most criminal justice professionals. But how safe is it? We are faced with a double-edged sword. Carrying a handgun or other defensive weapons using waistline retention allows for quick weapon acquisition and stronger defense – yet you remain vulnerable to these same items being removed quickly by an adversary. We have considered a number of variables to determine the best concealment holster for beretta.

Concealed Handgun Permit Texas
Let’s summarize the main issues presented thus far.

1. Lethal force is not always the appropriate option. Statistically, it is much more likely you will use less-than-lethal force with an adversary. Where should you carry your pepper spray, flashlight, impact instrument, stun-gun, handcuffs or kubaton?

2. Fanny-packs are a signal to others you may be carrying a concealed weapon.

3. Waistline retention of weapons is good for quick weapon acquisition and defensive strength, but presents risk for retention of weapons.

4. 70% of physical confrontations end up on the ground.

5. If 20-25% of officer deaths result in an adversary using the officer’s handgun to kill them, and most officers use waistline retention (belt systems and belt holsters) – either the carry system is less than desirable, or training in weapon retention is deficient.

6. If I am carrying a handgun or other weapons, will I have time to get them out and use them against an adversary?

7. Under high stress the cognitive process begins to deteriorate rapidly and the body loses many of its complex and fine motor skills. Many weapon retention systems actually require these skills in order to retrieve the weapon.

8. Smaller frame guns are more easily concealed. Choose a handgun your hand is comfortable with, and one you can shoot with accurately. Choose the cartridge carefully.

9. As few steps as possible should be required to retrieve a handgun or other weapon, and gross motor skills should be utilized. Fine and complex motor skills should be eliminated.

10. The method chosen for carrying defensive weapons, including handguns, should be such that in order to retrieve them requires very little cognitive function.

11. Consider using instinct shooting instead of traditional shooting methods.

Based on these considerations, what is the best method of carrying? If you are like most people who have the legal authority to carry a handgun, you will likely carry your handgun using some type of waistline retention method. Does your jacket cover the handgun? Where is your pepper spray, kubaton or impact weapon? Are they in your car? Are they in the pockets of your jacket? Let’s consider one more variable.

The Wild Card
Here’s the wild card. What about the weather and your environment? If it is 90 degrees outside, a jacket will become very uncomfortable. Additionally, wearing a jacket or long shirt on a hot day may actually draw attention to you, because it is not normal. Does your schedule require you to be in and out of meetings and buildings all day long? Do you have to stop at the bank or pick up groceries? Doctor appointment? These three elements; weather, environment and schedule will have impact on your carry method.

The question most often asked by those who are considering carrying a handgun is: what is the best way to carry it? This is the wrong question. The questions you should be asking are:

1. What is the likelihood that I will be involved in circumstances in which a favorable outcome for me will depend on my ability to retrieve my handgun or other weapon within several seconds? In other words, should I carry my handgun using a waistline retention method?

2. If I choose a waistline retention method, how confident am I that I can successfully defend myself from an adversary trying to remove these weapons?

3. What if I end up on the ground?

4. Does the weather, my environment or my schedule today have any impact on my carrying method?

On a typical day I may be attend several meetings at different locations with people ranging from CEOs to civic group members. I might have a doctor appointment or need to stop at the grocery store. It is impractical and uncomfortable for me wear a jacket all day long. When I do take it off, I am wondering if my handgun is in view of others. Knowing that lethal force is statistically unlikely, I also carry some less-than-lethal weapons. If I do need them I do not want to be fumbling around under high stress trying to locate and retrieve them.

As I began to ponder this dilemma, I searched for a retention system that would allow me to carry my handgun, pepper spray, impact weapon, kubaton and flashlight in an organized manner. I could not find one, so I designed one myself, considering all the factors outlined in this article.

It looks like a book cover, or business portfolio, with several zippers. Inside, I had several pockets sewn with Velcro tabs to secure my handgun and other less-than-lethal weapons. I have taken this into virtually every environment; from the bar to the boardroom, without raising any suspicion or concern. Everything I need is within arms reach by unzipping one zipper; and it is all in front of me. I am not reaching into a pocket or behind my back fumbling with some type of retention holster.

The downside is that it may take an extra second or two for me to retrieve the appropriate weapon. Also, if the adversary manages to remove this pack from my possession, he will have all my weapons.

Conclusion: there is no perfect method of carrying your handgun or other less-than-lethal weapons. If you have the legal ability to carry a handgun, please consider these principles carefully as you decide.

Best Concealment Holster For Beretta

Is The Beretta 9000s The Perfect Carry Gun?

Introduced by Beretta in 2001, the 9000S was one of the first Beretta weapons that was specifically designed to target the United States concealed carry market. Most all prior handguns that Beretta had produced were targeted for either military or police, but Beretta saw a specific market forming in the concealed carry arena. Beretta had originally thought about calling the weapon the "Baby Beretta", but later changed their minds as they thought it might cause some confusion within their sub-compact line of handguns.

Concealed Handgun License Texas
The frame of the 9000S is very compact and made from a reinforced polymer material to reduce the weight. Originally, Beretta had planned on using an even smaller frame, but later designed to move to a slightly larger model as initial testing demonstrated some grip complaints due the shortened frame. The 9000S was also the first Beretta handgun that featured a tilt down barrel locking mechanism based somewhat on the original John Browning design.

The 9000S features a simple take-down system so the weapon can be field stripped in a matter of minutes without the use of any tools. During field stripping, the handgun breaks down into 4 parts which are easily put back together.

inding a Beretta 9000S to carry isn’t really the problem, the problem is finding a good concealed handgun holsters for this weapon. This site has quite a few Beretta 9000S gun holsters for sale => Beretta 9000S Holster.

Handgun Conceal And Carry Options – Part 2

You have decided to purchase a handgun and a concealed handgun holsters, carry it under the legal requirements of the state you live in. You have also decided to carry your handgun in a holster designed to be attached to the belt or your pants in the waistline area. We need to look deeper into issues surrounding self defense shootings.

Statistically, over 70% of physical altercations end up on the ground. Although speed will prevail with an adversary while standing, speed does not prevail on the ground; size does. On the ground a bigger and more powerful adversary has the outcome in their favor. Now picture this: you are on the ground fighting with an adversary while attempting to protect your handgun from the adversary’s grasp. Using glock ankle holster for a handgun may add an additional risk in this scenario.

Primary consideration: waistline retention is good for quick weapon acquisition and defensive strength, but presents great opportunity for an adversary to take these weapons away.

Lesson in high stress situations:
Most people being confronted with lethal force decision-making will experience high stress. Also known as the Fight or Flight Syndrome, high-stress situations trigger an incredible reaction between the brain, the body and emotions.

There is a relationship between performance and stress. When there is no stress, there is no great performance. When there is great stress, there is great performance. When there is huge distress there is a marked decrease in performance, which becomes unreliable. Typically under high stress, the first thing to deteriorate is cognitive function – the ability to make decisions. This has implications in reference to the method a handgun is carried.

The sympathetic nervous system is activated when the mind detects a potential threat to survive. It reacts by mediating the involuntary responses to alarm by speeding the heart rate, raising the blood pressure and dilating the pupils of the eyes among many other things. This system opposes and overrides the parasympathetic nervous system, which regulates many body functions, in order to provide the body with the necessary capabilities to fight or flee from danger. In doing so, however, the body loses its fine and complex motor skills. These skills require complex cognitive processes and small muscle mass groups including hands and fingers. Eye-hand coordination, precision, tracking and timing are effected. However, the gross motor skills are increased; a cognitively simple process requiring very little decision making. Gross motor skills are typified by push and pull movements with the arms and legs.

The question now becomes; under high stress, is it wise to carry a handgun or other defensive weapon in a manner that requires complex decision-making and fine or complex motor skills in order to acquire them? Locating and drawing a handgun, or retrieving other defensive weapons depends on the holster/holder and method of carrying these items. Some holsters/holders require the owner to unsnap, push down and then twist or some other combination of movements. These are fine, complex motor skills. Attempting to accomplish these movements under distress is very difficult because fine and complex motor skills are greatly diminished or have disappeared altogether.

Imagine the decision-making process and fine or complex motor skills that are involved in retrieving your handgun from your waistline, locating the pepper spray in your jacket pocket, and grabbing the kubaton from your front pants pocket. Locating these items in one area is a much simpler cognitive process that requires fewer fine and complex motor skills. As stated earlier, herein lays one of the advantages of carrying these weapons using waistline retention. Your handgun is in a snap holster on your belt, your pepper spray is sitting in a holder with a Velcro cover on your belt, and a kubaton is tucked into the pants at the waistline. There is not a lot of complicated cognitive decision-making going on if you decide to grab one of these. Acquiring these under high stress will for the most part require gross motor skills – primarily using the arm and hand to locate the item, pull it out and aim it or employ it. Again, it depends on the complexity of the holster or holder.
